How net salary varies across countries
Net salary is the amount you take home after income tax and mandatory social contributions are deducted from your gross pay. The gap between gross and net varies significantly by country: in some jurisdictions, a professional earning โฌ80,000 gross may keep over 80% of that amount, while in others the effective deduction rate exceeds 40%.
This calculator covers 55 countries popular with expatriates and international professionals, spanning Western Europe (France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Monaco), the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe (Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Turkey, Ukraine), the Nordics (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland), the Americas (USA, Canada, Brazil, Mexico), the Middle East (UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia), Asia-Pacific (Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, India, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Georgia, Australia), Russia, and Africa (Egypt, South Africa, Mauritius, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Madagascar, DR Congo). For France, the calculation accounts for the quotient familial system. For Switzerland, the simulation covers all 26 cantons with commune-level municipal multipliers.
The deductions modeled include income tax (applied by bracket according to official 2025-2026 rates) and employee social contributions (healthcare, retirement, unemployment where applicable). The household type you select can materially change the result through tax credits, allowances, or rate adjustments depending on the country.
Results are estimates for planning purposes. Actual net salary depends on employer-specific benefits, bonus structures, local surcharges, and bilateral tax treaties. Cross-reference with official government tax calculators and consult a qualified tax professional for your specific situation.
