Tax system in Germany

Germany uses a formula-based progressive income tax system with effective marginal rates from 14% to 45%. The tax-free allowance (Grundfreibetrag) is 12,084 EUR. The Solidaritatszuschlag (5.5% of tax) has been waived for most earners since 2021.
