What changed
On 29 September 2026 the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) published the 2027 premiums for compulsory health insurance. The average premium across all insured persons stands at CHF 412 a month, CHF 19.70 more than in 2026 (+5.0 %). For adults, all deductibles and all models combined, it rises to CHF 487.60 (+CHF 22.80, +4.9 %), and for young adults aged 19 to 25 to CHF 338.80 (+CHF 15.40).
Our Swiss calculator displays another series from the same table: the standard premium of an adult aged 26 or over, with the CHF 300 deductible and accident cover included. It is the reference premium for someone who has just arrived in Switzerland and has chosen neither a higher deductible nor an alternative model. Its Swiss average moves from CHF 602.10 to CHF 627.90 a month (+CHF 25.80, +4.3 %). All 26 cantons go up, but not at the same pace: +2.5 % in Glarus, +2.8 % in Vaud, +4.1 % in Geneva, +5.2 % in Zurich, +5.7 % in Jura. Ticino remains the most expensive canton (CHF 764.70) and Zug the cheapest (CHF 434.00).
Two points for reading these amounts. The LAMal premium is not a payroll deduction: each adult pays it directly to their insurer, and the employer does not contribute, unlike in neighbouring Liechtenstein. Our calculator shows it below the net salary so that readers budget for it, without ever deducting it. And the individual premium reduction granted by the cantons according to income is not modelled: it depends on the canton, the municipality and the household.
The Geneva block of the calculator and the 26-canton table were updated on 7 October 2026 with the 2027 values.
Effective date
The 2027 premiums apply from 1 January 2027. The FOPH published them on 29 September 2026, and each insurer notifies its new premium to policyholders by the end of October at the latest. A change of insurer or deductible for 1 January must be decided before the end of November, the notice period being one month to the end of the year.
