Tax system in Quebec
In Quebec the net salary results from two income taxes and four payroll deductions. Federal tax (14% to 33% over five brackets in 2026, reduced by the 16.5% Quebec abatement) and Quebec tax (14% to 25.75% over four brackets, basic personal amount of $18,952) come on top of the QPP (6.30% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, then 4% up to $85,000), the QPIP (0.430% up to $103,000) and employment insurance at the reduced Quebec rate (1.30% up to $68,900). On $60,000 gross, $44,202 remains net for the year, $1,700 every two weeks. Enter your annual or monthly salary: the calculator applies the 2026 brackets and basic personal amounts, the four deductions and the abatement, and shows the net per year, per month, every two weeks and per hour.

What is withheld from a pay in Quebec
Six lines separate gross from net on a Quebec pay statement. Federal income tax is computed on the five 2026 brackets (14% up to $58,523, 20.5% up to $117,045, 26% up to $181,440, 29% up to $258,482, 33% above), less the credit for the $16,452 basic personal amount, then reduced by the 16.5% Quebec abatement of basic federal tax. Quebec income tax is computed on four brackets (14% up to $54,345, 19% up to $108,680, 24% up to $132,245, 25.75% above), less the credit for the $18,952 basic personal amount.
Four contributions follow. The QPP (Quebec Pension Plan) takes 6.30% of earnings between the $3,500 exemption and the $74,600 maximum pensionable earnings, plus 4% on the tranche from $74,600 to $85,000, for a maximum of $4,895.30 in 2026. The QPIP (parental insurance) takes 0.430% of insurable earnings up to $103,000. Employment insurance takes 1.30%, the reduced Quebec rate, up to $68,900 of insurable earnings. On $60,000 gross, the total tax is $11,200 and the contributions $4,598, leaving $44,202 net. The employer adds its own contributions on top of the gross: they do not appear on the pay statement but they are part of the cost of the position.

Biweekly pay: reading a Quebec pay statement
A biweekly pay makes 26 pays a year rather than 12 monthly ones: the Act respecting labour standards requires wages to be paid at regular intervals of no more than sixteen days (one month for managers and certain assimilated workers). An annual salary paid every two weeks is therefore read in 26 slices, and two months a year carry three pays. On $60,000 gross, each pay carries $1,700 net after federal and Quebec tax, QPP, QPIP and employment insurance; on $80,000, $2,140; on $100,000, $2,620.
A pay statement lists the gross for the period, each deduction, the year-to-date totals and the net deposited. The calculator shows the same net every two weeks, per week and per hour on the weekly hours you enter (the statutory normal week is 40 hours). Vacation pay, group insurance premiums and pension plan contributions specific to an employer are not part of this calculation.

Minimum wage and median wage in Quebec in 2026
The general minimum wage is $16.60 per hour since 1 May 2026, and $13.30 per hour for employees receiving tips. On a 40-hour week that is $34,528 gross per year. In 2025 the median hourly wage of full-time employees in Quebec was $33.00, and the average $37.28, tips, commissions and bonuses included: a 40-hour week at the median wage is $68,640 gross per year, which the calculator turns into $49,028 net.
These benchmarks come from the Labour Force Survey, which measures the gross hourly wage of the main job of employees aged 15 and over. They are not an annual employment income: the median employment income of the tax data covers full-time and part-time workers alike and is not used here. Read together with the cost of living in Montreal, they set a salary offer in its market.

Final tax and withholding: why the net of March is not the net of December
The calculator gives an annual assessment: the tax and contributions due on the whole year, spread evenly over 12 months or 26 pays. A real pay statement does not move evenly. Each contribution stops once its yearly maximum is reached: the QPP base contribution once pensionable earnings reach $74,600 (the 4% additional contribution then runs to $85,000), employment insurance at $68,900 of insurable earnings, the QPIP at $103,000. An employee paid $120,000 reaches the maximum of the QPP base contribution after a little more than seven months of salary, that of the 4% additional contribution after eight and a half months, and the employment insurance maximum after a little less than seven months: from then on the net deposited every two weeks rises, and the last pays of the year carry more than the first.
Income tax works the other way round: the employer withholds it pay by pay from the federal and Quebec withholding tables, based on the credits declared on the TD1 and TP-1015.3 forms, and the final amount is settled with the two tax returns filed in the spring. Other credits and deductions specific to a household (RRSP contributions, childcare, medical expenses, the Quebec solidarity tax credit) change the final tax without appearing here. The figures on this page are estimates for a single person without children.
