Burundi taxes salaries through the IPR (employment income tax) withheld monthly by the main employer: 0% up to 150,000 BIF per month, 20% to 300,000 and 30% above (art. 117 of Law 1/14 of 24 December 2020; annual scale art. 21), shown here annualized. The base is gross pay minus the employee INSS pension contribution of 4%, whose base is capped at 450,000 BIF per month and which is deductible (art. 33). There is no professional abatement or family quotient; transport allowances up to 15% and housing allowances up to 60% of base salary are exempt.
